So now that summer is fully upon us, who doesn’t find themselves the subject of an onslaught of bare skinned photos? With all the expected fun in the sun, I’m sure we all want to put our best face forward, especially in front of the unforgiving camera lens so I am going to leave it to the experts here.
I recently came across some well heeded advice: 7 Ways To Look Better in Photos courtesy of Garance Doré, the famed illustrator, photographer and fashion blogger extraordinaire whom I admire and follow.
She is so beautifully and authentically French with a pulse on all that is chic and of the moment. If you watch her videos, you’ll agree that the sound of her voice can lull you into a deep state of relaxation. Ahhhh, that accent… I would love to meet her in person to share a cappuccino and inspirations. And it doesn’t hurt that her significant other, Scott Schuman, is the acclaimed photographer and voice behind The Sartorialist, another iconic fashion blog featuring street chic at its finest from all over the world.
Garance’s best tips:
Light used well is like NATURAL PHOTOSHOP.
Red or dark lipstick isn’t very photogenic, it can make your lips look thinner and give a pinched look. TRANSPARENT LIP GLOSS, on the other hand, is perfect.
For close-ups, looking over the shoulder is cute. Or something a little more simple,CHIN DOWN, BIG SMILE, OPEN EYES!
Once you’ve figured out your best profile, USE IT AND ABUSE IT.
Number one advice for selfies if you must: LOOK UP!
PLAY THE GAME: crack yourself up, chat it up, have someone tell you a story, move.
JUST SAY NO: Sometimes, conditions are perfect for a horrible photo.
